Civmec has celebrated an exciting milestone with the first works commencing within our new, state-of-the-art assembly and sustainment hall in Henderson.
The towering facility now stands at 18 storeys high and boasts 53,000m2 of usable floor area, making it the largest undercover modularisation and maintenance facility in Australia.
Processing and welding of the first steel for OPV3 has now occured within the facility.
OPV3 is part of the Royal Australian Navy's Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) program; a program that will see the delivery of 12 OPVs in total, with the preparation and profile cutting of steel plates for the first two vessels built in South Australia undertaken by Civmec at its Henderson facility.
Consolidation of the ship’s blocks will commence in the new assembly and sustainment hall in the coming months.
This will be a continuous process while all 10 OPVs are built at Civmec's Henderson complex over the coming years.
