The vertical scope included civil works; fabrication; structural, mechanical & piping (SMP), electrical & instrumentation (E&I); and no load commissioning.
The structural steel was fabricated utilising both Civmec’s west and east coast facilities, with 35 per cent fabricated at Henderson and 65 per cent at Newcastle.
The overland conveyor comprised 1,108 modules which were fully constructed and clocked at an onsite assembly yard, providing considerable efficiency, before delivery to the conveyor track and placement with cranes.
The E&I scope included installation of 118,000 metres of cable and 1,200 instruments. Civmec also completed no-load and load commissioning as part of the scope, along with assisting Alcoa with performance testing.
At peak, the project employed approximately 90 personnel, and was completed in early 2021.
