Unlocking the value of local steel shipbuilding, we are investing in skills and the transfer of knowledge with local subcontractors and suppliers to support the establishment of a competitive Australian shipbuilding industry and supply chain that can eventually export to the global market.

In February 2016, Civmec acquired the Forgacs name and their land and assets in Tomago, New South Wales. The purpose-built shipyard is situated on the Hunter River, just 14 kilometres from the Port of Newcastle, with the 227,000 square metre site incorporating 535 metres of river frontage and two ship basins.

Our state-of-the-art assembly hall on the west coast is one of the most efficient and innovative in the world, delivering a world-class resource to the Australian maritime landscape. It is a significant piece of industrial infrastructure, with the highly specialised equipment at our Henderson facility supporting advanced production and assembly techniques. Our investment in this facility aligns with the Australian Government’s identification of Henderson as one of two suitable locations in Australia for the continuous build of naval ships and vessel maintenance.

These extensive waterfront facilities and specialised equipment enable us to provide a comprehensive national service offering for the construction, repair and maintenance of vessels of any size, with our integrated, self-performance capability including heavy engineering, modularisation, specialised surface treatment and industrial insulation.
